Israel Kicks Out Migrants – By Changing Their Nationality And Deporting or Arresting Them

Sudanese asylum seekers in Israel are being issued with documents changing their nationality, allowing them to be removed from the country or imprisoned.

The Bureau has identified migrants who have recently been issued with documents labelling them as South Sudanese – despite holding passports showing they were born in areas that remain in Sudan.

Four migrants from the Republic of Sudan have already been flown from Israel to South Sudan, an entirely different country that was formed last year. The South Sudanese authorities refused to accept them at the border and they were sent back to Tel Aviv.

NGOs estimate that over 100 other Sudanese asylum seekers in Israel may have been issued with the wrong nationality in the past three months, and fear there may be more attempts to remove them to South Sudan.

South Sudan only came into existence in June 2011 after a 21-year civil war. Intense hostilities remain between the newly formed country and the Republic of Sudan, with conflicts regularly breaking out on the border.

Israel is unable to deport people to Sudan as it has no repatriation agreement with Khartoum. But a recent deportation order allows it to deport migrants to the country’s newest neighbour: South Sudan.

But now NGOs based in Israel report that people from the Nuba mountain region of Sudan are being issued with temporary visas stating they are South Sudanese by the Ministry of Interior – which make them eligible for deportation. South Sudanese asylum seekers have been asked to leave Israel voluntarily, but those who do not face imprisonment.

It might be naive of me, but part of me can’t help thinking that the majority of the generation who survived the Shoah, the Holocaust; who’d be triggered as eff by what’s going on in Israel right now. Who’d be shocked to see their nation acting in this specific manner? Are dead.

Some part of me is just stuck on the cycle of ‘when the abused become the abuser’. On what holds back the abused from becoming an abuser until… what pushes them over. What’s the restraining influence once removed that releases depravity.

But realistically - realistically it isn’t new, is it. All I’d have to do to know that, is speak to Palestinians.

This is Israel. This has ALWAYS been Israel - someone hurt us once, so we’re going to take this corner and make it ours and kick everyone out and lash out at anyone who says we can’t have this corner or that we should remember what it was like NOT to have this corner. This is our turf, we earned it… blah blah blah…

The stamp of the abuser was always there. It changed Israel forever and so many within Israel just don’t care.

This was a very interesting view point that reinforces something I learnt here: The fact that it is VERY IMPORTANT to make a clear distinction between the Zionist state, Jewish people and the Shoah. 

Even if Israel uses the Shoah to legitimize its existence, Zionism is an ideology that is not shared by ALL Jewish people or all survivors of the Shoah. And as you have stated, the violence used by Israel to sustain a white supremacist agenda as illustrated in the OP, would certainly not have been approved by many survivors of the Holocaust because of how triggering it is and also because MANY BLACK AND AFRICAN PEOPLE - though they are completely erased from that history just like the Rroma community and people interned in camps just for being or suspected of being queer - DID PERISH DURING THE HOLOCAUST!

Israel is NOT the nation of “the majority of the generation who survived the Shoah, the Holocaust” It is a nation with its own specific interests built by some survivors of the Holocaust and based on the zionist ideology which is inherently brutal and imperialist and which set in motion this horrendous kind of violence!

Also, as a black and an African person, I feel compelled to say this: I refuse to fall for the weak and disgusting trick of using anti-blackness in Israel to promote the anti-Israel agenda. Because I know that pro-Palestine partisans like to report at length about how disgustingly racist against black people Israel is, yet those same people will NEVER get caught reporting on how pervasive anti-blackness is in Palestine itself and within the Arab world at large where black people are still viewed as ‘abd’ i.e. ‘SLAVES’!!!! They basically only care about black people when they can exploit our struggles to further their agenda, yet turn a blind eye when black women are beaten to fucking death in the streets of Beirut without anyone intervening or black migrants from East Africa treated like dog poop in Egypt. They will make you beleive that Israel is the only hellhole for black people in the middle-East despite the fact that the region at large is deeply entrenched in anti-blackness!! I SEE YOU, I DONT FALL FOR YOUR SHIT AND I HIGHLY DESPISE YOU! YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY NO BETTER THAN THOSE YOU CLAIM TO FIGHT AGAINST!

As for when does the abuser becomes the abused, well we ALL have in us the potential to be an abuser, but not the POWER. We basically become abusers when we fail to channel the highs provided by the impunity of power. This is when self-defense which is which initially stand for resistance, life and survival, shifts to oppressive violence. This happened for when Israel gained the military, economical and political support of the west. Hence power is the defining key of oppression.

It’s not “They” It’s white Israel and U.S as allies. This soldier represents Beta Israel, not to mention they would rather save that cat, than him.  He is an Israel Soldier by Law.

Finally a comment from someone with sense. Thank you. Africans in Israel, Beta Israel(Ethiopia) or otherwise do not have the same rights let alone power as European Jews and are a marginalized group in society. None of you can pretend you are unaware of the treatment of Ethiopians and other Africans in Israel, Jewish, Christian and Muslim alike. The only reason some of them are tolerated is so they can be used in the military. Their blood is expendable to Israel. The state of Israel would rather help an animal than both Arabs and Africans.

So who are you calling ‘they’? Did Africans begin ethnic cleansing Palestinians? Are Africans oppressing Palestinians? Or are they not mostly in jail and detention centers themselves. Ethiopian Jews make less than 0.000001% of the population and live in horrible conditions for the most part, when they aren’t working less than minimum wage jobs and being kept from education and health services.

You think they let Ethiopians forget that they ‘saved them’? That they brought them over there under false pretenses? Israel is the fucking fantasy dream back home do you think anybody knew what was waiting for them? What do you think holds them to IDF service other than being pressured to pay debts to the state? Ethiopians live in poverty in Israel. Even though only 12% of soldiers receive financial assistance, Ethiopians still try to get that opportunity. What do you think the outcome of that is knowing they are such a small portion of the society to begin with?

Over 60 percent of Ethiopian soldiers spend some time in an IDF jail because they try to leave when reality sets in. Do you understand that? They do not want to contribute to harming Palestinians. They are just trying to survive. Leaving the already infrequent opportunity for education to get money for their family. Do you know how Arabs are thought of by Ethiopians? To what high esteem you guys are held? Even though the feeling is most certainly not mutual. Even knowing how Ethiopians are treated by Arabs everywhere they go, and you say we would rather help an animal than you?

Why can’t he just like animals? Maybe the war he’s fighting is so damn complicated and unjust that he wants to protect SOMETHING that is worth protecting. That cat isn’t choosing sides and using money, religion and culture as a reason to judge and oppress others. It’s just a cat, in need of food, water and love - the neccessities of life for everyone.

I’d like to think this man just wants to help out a life, whether it’s a cat, a Muslim, a Jew, an American or whatever.

The bolded is mine. Beneath every level of oppression, there is another level of oppression. Sadly most harping about their oppression never acknowledge the necks of those on whom they are standing.

This soldier, as a black person and an African would be discriminated against in Israel and Palestine alike. He is just as much a victim of this whole conflict as any other.

If mentioning the fact that 4.7 millions of Palestinian lives have been torn apart is anti-semitic, then the erasure of these millions of lives is considered PRO-semitic.

The Dictator and The Zionist - The Trouble with Sacha Baron Cohen.

This morning, Sacha Baron Cohen is on my mind. Not a pleasant image to have to confront, but he’s been all over the place with the press for his new movie, The Dictator, which premiered in London earlier this week. He plays a composite character based on Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi - but I also see a lot of Iran’s Ahmedinijad in there. I don’t even really know what the plot of the movie is, but SBC’s movies have never really been big on plot.

I read this blog on CNN by Dean Obeidallah which calls out Cohen on the racism he displays in “browning up” to play an Arab man. Obeidallah’s argument is that Arabs and Indians themselves should be in movies that make fun of them. Fair enough. He doesn’t go far enough, in my opinion, to address all the stereotypes of Arabs that come out to play in the movie, but that’s because he hadn’t seen the movie when he wrote the piece. I wonder if he will.

What bothers me is that nobody’s addressing something more complex and, in my mind, more dangerous. So I’m going to attempt to do it. I know what I’m going to say is controversial, but I believe in speaking my mind when I see something that bothers me.

You see, SBC is a Zionist, a very publicly declared one. Which is not a problem for me personally, really. He’s got the right to hold his political views even if they are very bigoted ones that have been the root of most of the strife in the Middle East since 1948. But he’s got a very deliberate agenda which he expresses not-so-subtly in all his movies, and it’s not being said by commentators because of the fear that they will be called anti-Semitic.

Zionism is the belief in a Jewish nation, and the accompanying fierce loyalty to that nation, no matter what it does in the name of protecting itself and perpetuating its survival. It’s Zionism, not Judaism, that has seen the worst atrocities committed against the people of Palestine. Now, SBC doesn’t go around spouting things about the greatness of Israel in his movies. But if you look carefully, each one of his productions - from Ali G to Borat to Bruno to now, The Dictator, advances a certain element of Zionist propaganda against Muslims. Which is that Muslims are laughable, unintelligent, idiotic people with no intellect at best, and terrorists at worst. And Cohen uses buffoonery to do this.

How? By taking the stereotypes, derived both from Orientalism and from anti-Islamic Zionism, and playing them out to such ridiculous extremes, that his audiences laugh. And in laughing, they feel entertained. And in being entertained, they swallow the stereotypes and the racism whole, without pausing to critically analyze what they’ve been presented with. You could call this SBC’s particular genius. Yes, it’s pretty clever. But it’s also dangerous.

With Ali G, Cohen presented a fairly innocuous character: a rudeboy of uncertain ethnicity* (but everyone assumed he was Asian, or at least an Asian persona taken on by a white man for even more irony and laughs) who was stupid, racist, anti-Semitic, and sexist. A genius comedic character who made people laugh and believe that Asians, especially Muslim ones, of a certain age, class, and educational level, are all like this.

With Borat, I almost don’t have to say anything. We all know the buffoon he played who was from Kazakhstan who went to the United States and displayed all sorts of inappropriate behavior. He spouted off truisms about life in Kazakhstan, which included some pretty nasty jibes at village life - “My sister is best prostitute in village” - implying that again, Kazakhs - who happen to be Muslim - are backwards, idiotic yokels who engage in incest and bestiality. Of course it’s ridiculous, you say, we know it’s not true. Yes, but when you pick a country that most people know virtually nothing about and you assign values and mores to it, you know that because of the vacuum of knowledge, people will subconsciously adopt those values, or at least associate them with the country in the absence of better knowledge. Again, very, very clever.

In Bruno, the story of a gay Austrian fashionista, there’s no overt racism against Arabs or Muslims for a while. But then Cohen pulls the stunt of interviewing a Palestinian man who he claims is a dangerous Muslim terrorist. The man, in real life, is a Palestinian Christian who has nothing to do with terrorism. Cohen made him sign a release form before appearing in the movie, and didn’t tell him that he was going to brand him as a terrorist. On screen, this is a big joke, but in real-life Palestine, this can result in your death at the hands of Israeli security forces.

Most people think of Sacha Baron Cohen as a comedic genius, as I said before, as a trickster, someone who stands conventions on their heads to get laughs. I see him as someone else: a very intelligent man with a political stance and a stage on which to make that stance known. That he’s being subversively funny about it and using comedy rather than straight political discourse to do so is a sign of his brilliance, but also of his duplicity. He is advancing the worst of Zionist propaganda against Muslims with his movies, and the worst part is, you’re paying $15 each time to see him do it.

*I’ve had several people tell me Ali G was a parody of whites who want to be gangsta, Jamaican, or black. This wasn’t revealed until later in the series, though - and to be honest, when I saw him, the first thing that popped into my mind was that he was a parody of an Asian. Perhaps it was the name “Ali” (which was later revealed to be short for Alistair), a Muslim name that is very common amongst British Pakistanis, not so common amongst Afro-Carribbeans. Anyway, even if it was a white wannabe, critics rounded on him for making it “safe” to laugh at that culture from an imagined politically correct stance because it was buffoonery. I stick to my original claim that he was lampooning Asians (in addition to blacks, a more definite identity that I think evolved and became clearer as the series went on), and that his Zionist, anti-Muslim and anti-Arab stance has become more bold over time and become more and more overt in his films. And one thing people don’t know is that when he talks in the supposed language of each character, he’s actually making in-jokes in Hebrew.
