Tell me about it. I’m moving to France in 11 days. White people keep asking if I’m excited, then looking surprised when I say no.

Whiteness confers the privilege of being oblivious of racism. Being black + living in France = Hell. They are much more virulent in their micro-aggressions and open about their racism than Anglo-saxons. On top of that, they are so sure of being worth shit and all HHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHA They have still not gottern over that fact that unlike 3 centuries ago, France is NOT the center of the world nor the most powerful country on Earth anymore. They are still soooo hurt over this!

We are the country of human rights' Yeah my ass!! Fucking savages, your history is indeed a testimony of how much you stand for human rights LMAO! Also sexual harrassemnt as a black woman…

France …. ewwwwwwww

Good luck! You WILL NEED SOME!

When, as happened recently in France, an attempt is made to coerce women out of the burqa rather than creating a situation in which a woman can choose what she wishes to do, it’s not about liberating her, but about unclothing her. It becomes an act of humiliation and cultural imperialism. It’s not about the burqa. It’s about the coercion. Coercing a woman out of a burqa is as bad as coercing her into one. Viewing gender in this way, shorn of social, political and economic context, makes it an issue of identity, a battle of props and costumes. It is what allowed the US government to use western feminist groups as moral cover when it invaded Afghanistan in 2001. Afghan women were (and are) in terrible trouble under the Taliban. But dropping daisy-cutters on them was not going to solve their problems.

I have never understood the rationale behind those laws: To claim that muslims women have no agency on the way they dress, yet take even more agency from them by stripping them from the right to dress however the want :/

Congratulations Félicitations to Christiane Taubira, France’s new Minister of Justice:

In an unprecedented move in French politics, three black politicians, two of them women and all from France’s overseas departments in the Caribbean, joined President Francois Hollande’s cabinet as its held its first meeting Thursday.
In the most senior appointment, Christiane Taubira, from French Guiana, has been named minister of justice in the new Socialist government, becoming the first black woman to made a full minister.
Rama Yade, originally from Senegal, had risen to the level of junior minister in the previous Nicolas Sarkozy administration.
Taubira, 60, considered to be on the left of the Socialist Party, is the author of the 2001 “Taubira Law” which officially recognises the slave trade and slavery as crimes against humanity.
More here.

I’d like to hear more about that space to the left of socialism that Ms. Taubira occupies ;-)

ohhhhhh this cool but I wonder why France decided to choose not only FEMALE politicians but BLACK ones giving their sexist and racist stance on women and Muslim and Roma women in general (and lol pretty much any woman who isin’t white lololol)
do these women have similar ideologies with the other peeps in the government or…? like… ohhhh

Errrrrrr actually the anti-Roma politics was led by the last government, Nicolas Sarkozy’s.
Christiane Taubira is part of the government of the new French president, Francois Hollande, who promised diversity and gender equality in his government.
Also I know this is extremely controversial on Tumblr, but the anti-veil and anti-burka laws passed in France these past years were supported and backed by some of the most prominent women from muslim background in France, such as Fadela Amara, founder of the feminist movement, Ni putes,ni soumises (Neither Whores Nor Submissive).

Uhhhh. Francis Hollande calls for the internment of Roma in camps in FEB 2012 So yes, we have ALLLLL the right to side eye. ANd its not that Tumblr doesn’t know that some Muslims backed the hijab hate in France. Many Tumblr Muslims took on THOSE Muslims too. And in fact that is a pretty damn stupid argument to make. You think some discriminatory policy is alright just because some members of the group targeted actually agree with it? Really?

What about you back the fuck off and stop putting words in my mouth??
Did I deny anybody’s right to ‘side-eye’ anyone?? Hollande is NOT responsible for Sarkozy’s politics. I simply stated that, I made no assumptions about what Hollande’s politics is going to be like for the next 5 years. Actually, during the second round of the elections, Sarkozy tried to use the vivid racial tensions in France to present Hollande as the pro-immigration, pro-Islam candidate. And yes, I did read that article about Hollande but in your extremely simplistic analysis you seem unable to not conflate everything: racism is not a big homogeneous ball, not in France anyway. Anti-blackness, anti-arabness, islamophobia and anti-Tziganism are quite autonomous forms of oppression with very specific dynamics. Hence, the fact that black and Arab women are made members of the government, has more to do with sending strong messages against anti-blackness, islamophobia or anti-Arabness and very little do to with anti-Tziganism. We can debate about whether or not those messages are genuine or simply a ploy to get more votes from the growing black, Arab and or muslim communities. PoC are not a big homogenous group. Anti-tziganism is extremely pervasive in France and goes virtually unchallenged, which is why members of the Rroma community are far less represented in position of power than members of other racially-oppressed communities. Hence fighting against anti-blackness and/or islamophobia doesn’t necessarily translate into fighting against anti-Tziganism. Also, on the fact that Taubira may be used to condone racist politics, I don’t know Hollande’s intentions for sure. But something is certain, given Taubira’s track record and her work against anti-blackness, it is very unlikely she let something like that happen.
"ANd its not that Tumblr doesn’t know that some Muslims backed the hijab hate in France. Many Tumblr Muslims took on THOSE Muslims too. " You must be kidding me, right?? So wait because some random folks on Tumblr think it is their job and right to tell Muslims in France backing those laws, what is best for them in their own fucking country, I do not have the right to mention it?? No it is not stupid to make a point in order to highlight the complexity of an issue. What is stupid, is people, who are not directly affected by a problem, thinking it is normal and appropriate for them to try and attack anyone directly affected, on their opinion. As for my opinion on the matter, I am generally against those laws but my opinion does NOT matter, guess why?? Because, as a non-Muslim woman, I am NOT directly affected by those laws and will definitively not go around telling French Muslims what to think!!!

Being a Black woman in france

mobilizepoc:

regretsneverdie:

I’m always amazed by the quite positive image most of you have of my country (or i’d rather say, the country i live and from whom i’ve got my ID). Like, some of you even use the world “femme”, instead of female because they think it’s more flattering. Hey, i totally understand that, i wouldn’t like being called a female or “femelle” because as far as i’m concernend, i’m not an animal, but you have no idea what “femme” means in the french culture and theincredible misogyny of the french culture, where for exemple, there’s no gender neutral pronon. See, i can’t even say “my partner” without having to choose it’s gender.

But let’s get to the point. I’ve been reading so many Sj blogs lately. But life IRL is not like tumblr. None of my white friends are going to excuse themselves for their white privileges (something they don’t need to do). Black men don’t come to me telling me they’ll try to be more respectful of their women. So one of my friends told me i was seeing everything between the prism of racism and sex. i told him i’ve no over choice because as a Black women i’m fucked, and fucked over by everyone. I was talking with another one about my homeland and he told me something along the lines of “Shut up, you don’t know what you’re saying, i’ll talk with your (male) friend who know better.”

And the so-called male friend has to defend me so that i could keep on talking but even them, he didn’t wanted to hear me. I’m not in a good place right now.

I’m sick and tired of all these fights i’ve to take, sick and tired of being a “strong and independant black woman” because i’ve to fight against the whole wide world. I don’t have the strenght anymore. People say the US sucks for black people and they’re right but at least there’s a discution about race: there’s none where i live. When i speak people think i’m crazy and i’m starting to wandering if i’m not. I’m poor, and i’m black, and i’m a woman and i always thought, at least when i was white identifying, that everything will be alright when i’ll succeed but you know what? I can’t.

You know what race privilige is? It’s all the white person who mangage to get the entry to the French biggest school i’ve applied to. Despite the so-called school prasing all the achievements i’ve done so far in all my 21 years of existence as a writer and an actress, despite them telling me how professional i already am and how most of the other contestant as nowhere near skilled as i am. And it’s not the first time. I’m way to ambitious for a simple black woman to many school and that was always the same answer, despite my grades. Race privilege is all the people who don’t nearly have as many difficulties as the ones i face everyday just to survive and who have the chance i do need because i have one casting every two weeks and nothing as a writer, unless what i’m doing on my own.

Nobody gives a fuck about black woman, except for fucking them because they’re supposed to be some kind of “sexual objects”. I’ve been to Uk so many times and even though as so many say, it’s fucked there, guess what? In that wonderful country called france where we eat baguettes every day and got to see the Eiffel tower, it’s even worse.

So i’m leaving. For good. I can’t anymore, anyway.

Thank you for sharing this.

Being a black woman in France, one of the hardest thing ever! So just imagine being a queer or/and trans or/and disabled black woman UGH

That country should fall in a hole, full of racist fucks!!

Why This Woman Scares Me

thesavvysavants:

France’s first round of presidential elections are coming up on April 22nd, and three main candidates, two from the left and one from the right, are emerging as the frontrunners to to run against President Sarkozy.  Sarkozy is head of the Union pour un Mouvement Populaire (UMP), which is a right wing party.  But the woman I want to talk about is Marine Le Pen, head of the Front National, which is a far right wing party.  And when I say far right, I mean almost to the point of fascism.

First, let’s give a little background into the French election system.  On Sunday, April 22nd, citizens of France eighteen years of age or older will head to the polls to narrow the current field of ten candidates to one, to run against the incumbent president (Sarkozy).  Then on May 6th, the voters will elect the next president for a five year term.

One of the three main competitors against Sarkozy is Marine Le Pen.  It is important to note that like the U.S., France has never had a woman president (In 2007, Sarkozy ran against Ségolène Royal, and won by two million votes).

Marine Le Pen, however, should never be allowed anywhere near the Palais de l’Élysée, or the Presidency.

This is why this woman scares me:

  • She is opposed to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), a part of the European Union which helps farmers by subsidizing crops and land, while creating a minimum price for goods sold.
  • She wants to break apart from the European Union completely, and opposes the euro and the Treaty of Lisbon.
  • She wants to put a moratorium on legal immigration (and illegal immigration - don’t even get her started)
  • She wants to reinstate capital punishment in France
  • She does not condone abortion, even in cases of rape or incest
  • After the Toulouse shootings, even after her fellow right winger Sarkozy said not to make the shootings into a prejudiced hate speech against Islam, Le Pen said this: “We have underestimated, I think, the rise of radical Islam in our country.”
  • She also said this: “It is time to wage war on these fundamentalist political religious groups who are killing our children.”

In a world where reason is needed, electing this woman President would inhibit our growth as a world, and destroy the fundamental bonds that hold our countries together.

On a side note, did you know that the President’s official vacation home is the coolest house ever?

That is the Fort de Brégançon, and I want to live there.

Keep your eyes wide, and your mind wider

-Dillon

Well he wasn’t “recently” convicted for that!
Anyway apparently 1 out of 5 French voters think this fake ass, Nazi-sympathizer, unapologetic RACIST could be president. Startling!!!!
That country is DOOMED! UGH!
