There is so much I would like to say but I do not even know where to start. But I would simply say in a nutshell that the Arab Spring highlighted for me how extremely dangerous and devastating Arab imperialism was for Black Africans and for this reason, I will never again support any Arab movement of liberation! NEVER AGAIN - unless they openly and actively fight anti-blackness, otherwise, they will only strive off it. This is the reason why I do not support white movement of resistance like OWS, because they do not challenge the racism at their core, so if successful, will only lead to the creation of another racist society. 

It is extremely difficult to explain Arab anti-blackness with western-centric notions of race because a lot of it has to do with colorism and anti-blackness also manifest itself through the oppression of native, indigenous African peoples. One can be Arab and black. There is no such hard rule like the one drop rule in the US that defines blackness clearly in the Arab world. But unlike in the US, the Arab slave trade of black Africans has NEVER STOPPED, outlawed or not!!! It is still widely practiced all over the middle East and in some parts of North Africa. I am posting this, Ethiopia woman lived modern day slavery at hands of Dubai couple, which happened just few days ago and this, Saudi prince beat his black sex slave to death, as a reminder that we black people are still seen as less than human and slaves in the Arab world. 

The Egyptian revolution started off with reports of massacres of Somali migrants, the Lybian revolution culminated with the mass murder and genocide of 30,000 Tawergha people, wiped out with the support of the west and I frequently see casual anti-blackness on this website with pro-Palestine partisans who have no scruples exploiting the plight of black people in Israel, as simple rhetoric device to further their anti-Israel agenda. Yet none of them will ever address the lingering anti-blackness in Palestine or the rest of the Arab world. So, as a black African, simply by self-preservation, I can not get down with this kind of savagery. 

All of this just proves two things to me. First of all, the world do NOT give a flying fuck about the lives of Black African people, I already knew this. And when I say the world, I am not only talking about white people, I am talking about the whole fucking planet, POC included. This leads me to my second point, POC solidarity is the phoniest shit ever!! THERE IS NO SUCH A THING! And I see it as even dangerous because I know that many do not expose and address Arab imperialism because of it. Because Arab people are victims of white supremacy, they somehow get a pass for the supremacist system they have imposed on black and indigenous Africans. Being unchallenged, it can only strive!! THEY ARE STILL ENSLAVING US GODDAMNIT!! IN 2012!! I cannot denounce the barbaric anti-blackness of white supremacy and not address Arab imperialism. Especially since as a black person, I will always be a million times safer in the west than I will ever be in any Arab country!!

You know what?? I totally understand where you are coming from. I mean few years ago I was there too and I can see that your motives are pure. I used to think EXACTLY like you but I moved on from it as I was learning about the flaws in my though process. I am just going to show you two examples of where you are wrong in this message and I have been there.

This is the typical false metaphor that people use to support that non-violence and pacisfist garbage that support the racist status quo.

I am NOT fighting fire with fire. Neither were Malcolm x and the Black Panther Party. Why? Because you can NOT equate two things that are essentially different!! The violence of white supremacy as an imperialist hegemony built on white people’s quest for natural and incontestable superiority throughout history and sustain through political, soviological, cultural, economical, religious instutions such as the catholic church or the police, or the media or the educational system has absolutely NOTHING to do with the JUSTIFIED SELF-DEFENSE various POC have been opposing to it!! It has absolutely NOTHING in common!!

The motives are different: While white supremacy stands for absolute destruction and exploitation of POC, from slavery to colonialism and today neo-colonialism and a PARASITE capitalism system  based on the exploitation of POC around the world plus the institutional discrimination of POC in the west which ensures that the remain at the bottom of western societies, that they are marginalised, abused by police brutality and plunged into poverty and destitution!  We, well I personally and all the people I look up to NEVER claim RACIAL SUPERIORITY. Our motives are NOT to prove that we are better and then spread destruction, our ONLY intention is SURVIVAL!! We don not live unlike whiteness off other people just to prove our superiority! We do not plan to conquer the world and steal and loot and claim everything as our own. We do not want to dehumanise and destroy people. WE JUST WANT TO HAVE OUR HUMANITY ACKNOWLEDGE AND LIVE AS AUTONOMOUS AND FREE OF THE WHITE SUPREMACIST PARASITIC SYSTEM.

The means are different: White supremacy was build through looting, human zoos, concentration camps, biological warfare colonialism, slavery, neo-colonialism etc I challenge anyone to name me ONE black / African revolutionary who ever advocated for the use of any of these methods!

The effects are different: White supremacy/racism’s effects are different. First of all they have a global scale. Secondly they have been creating chaos from ecocide to human and cultural cultural genocide and exploitation. However, the revolutionaries I look up too such as Nkrumah, Lumumba, Sankara, Malcolm X and Huey P Newton, their legacies are all about empowerment and bringing HOPE to millions around the world and through the ages who have been physically and mentally alienated. White supremacy is the exaltation of death and destruction, those men stood for life, resistance, survival as alternatives to the slow and painful death offered by white supremacy! White supremacy is essentially the definition of racism!

So no!! It is NOT fire against fire! It is fire against water, the water and the flow of life against which white supremacy stands. Self-defense is pro-life, not racism aka white supremacy!! You can NOT compare the engineering of a genocide by a bigger power with a simple, isolated and weak person fighting back. Comparisons of this kind are not only irrational but also intellectually dishonest! You know who made such comparisons?? That vile man that was Ghandi!! He chastised Jews people fleeing and fighting back Nazism. This is how disgusting and dangerous this non-violence crap is because it always sustain the oppressive status-quo!

I have never personally heard of any historical/ empirical evidence of it working. I mean if it was the case, native Americans and Tibetan monks would have successfully tackle down their oppressors. Not even Ghandhi did, the British retreated because their power was weakening down!!

I just posted a video about prejudices in the context of discrimination. I am not quite sure about what you mean by “see the world through ignorant eyes.” but prejudices play out on the subconscious level. They may or may not see things consciously in some way, but still be driven by biases over which they have absolutely NO control! We all live in a white dominated world, meaning that WE ALL INTERNALISE  RACIST DOCTRINE, ALL OF US!! However only white people have the ultimate power to put those racist beliefs in motion!! So yeah THEY CAN NOT escape the socialization and conditioning processes of a society and culture and civilization that conceive them as superior! Hence putting all white people in one category is totally logical in the context of white supremacy, sine their motives, interest and socialisation is THE SAME!!

Dr. Banaji describes her research into the unconscious prejudices that human beings may carry below the threshold of consciousness. She is also a key contributor for the development of the “Implicit Association Test” (IAT), which is used in a range of experiments to measure the magnitude of prejudices that may lie in the subconscious of the test taker. All human beings are prone to systematic errors of thinking and feeling. We will participate in demonstrations of such errors, especially as they occur when humans assess, evaluate, and judge the most important stimulus in their environment ˆ other humans. From first impressions to enduring ones, from decisions about the qualities a person or group possesses to decisions about the worth of a person or social group, unconscious constraints on thinking and feeling create parallel constraints on social justice.

How deep are the bounds on human thinking and feeling and how do they shape social judgment? The focus of my research has been on the mechanics of unconscious mental processes, with attention to those that operate without conscious awareness, intention, or control. On the basis of dozens of experiments we ask: How should we conceive of equality in light of evidence about unconscious preferences, desires, and beliefs among those who are consciously unprejudiced? How should the impact of unintended harm be determined? In the obvious absence of simple solutions, new approaches to ensuring equality can gain by looking to discoveries in the mind sciences about the bounds on social thought and feeling. Based on the evidence, we may enter into a discussion of new forms of justice within democratic societies. To do so will require coming face-to-face with the paradox of the ordinary yet powerful mental threats to fairness and equality on the one hand and the democratic ideal of a just society on the other.

I first watched this video about 4 years ago and it changed me FOREVER. This is why I am forever shaking my head at white people who think it is ACCEPTABLE for them to make claims as bold as ‘I am not racist, I am not biased or prejudiced, I can’t be’ MEANWHILE WE LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE MOST POC ARE BATTLING ‘INTERNALISED RACISM’!

Most biases and prejudices do not play out in the conscious part of the brain, hence they are NOT reasonably controllable!! One is even LESS likely to be aware of their biases when it has little to no impact on their everyday life i.e. white people being aware of racism!

As a rule of thumb, I distrust people claiming that they are bias-free and this include black people acting as if it is impossible for them to have any ounce of anti-blackness in their mind. Cool story bros!

For the life of me, I can not understand why the leftist community here is still taken seriously.They basically consist of white cis straight males, with few exceptions, seriously convinced that they are revolutionaries for goodness’ sake!!

I will never forget how some of them went after Cuban American rightfully pointing out that Cuba is a dictatorship and they got away with it!

What do they have at stake?? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! So they spend their time writing about and discussing long, complicated theories, totally devoid of any lived experience of oppression because they have none!! Yet they assign themselves the status of revolutionaries??

because racism is so much more than that.

And aren’t we lucky that all we have to do is open a book/magazine, turn on a tv, look at an ad, turn off the computer or walk away, and then life is a-okay again?!

There are NO more good white people today as there were during slavery and under the third Reich. Many people who were considered of outstanding character back then were taking part in the most horrendous and gruesome racist crimes. It is contradictory in essence because I am conditioned, socialised and moulded to be inherently transphobic, I just cannot escape the normalisation of transphobia in my reality! The way I speak, see the world, approach things is drenched with transphobia! I can fight against it as much as I can but should never lie to myself and pretend that I am on the side of the victims while committing the abuse and benefiting from it!

So I foolishly thought that by ignoring the Italian pieces of shit clogging my ask box they will go away and take their vileness far from me but I was wrong. Why? Because this is what the do, i.e. nasty shit, violence, harassing and abusing  POC, using brutality to silence POC. So what have I learnt from all of this:

What does NOT upset Italians:

Being disgustingly racist and nasty. Treating black people and other POC like animals. Behaving like violent savages against non-whites and trying to shut down people denouncing their racism. Buying and selling black African women as slaves and throwing racist abuses at POC’s faces. Italians are actually very proud of their racism - well until someone call them out on it!

What DOES upset Italians:

What Italians can NOT deny:

—2 am had rock thrown at me by taxi driver after he tried to charge me 3-4 times as much for a ride.  this was after he yelled at me, got out of the taxi and threatened me by saying he was going to call the police (that’s the racialized part if you missed it), and tried to rush at me. 

—called ‘black girl, sudanese, and african girl’ in arabic over a dozen times while walking downtown one night

—sat at bar while men at another table discussed how much i was worth

—3 seperate times this week had egyptians imply i was not really ‘american’ and insist on knowing i was really from…

—arab egyptian use the word ‘nigger’ in a convo

—had arab egyptian comment on how ‘light’ my daughter was…

—arab egyptian ‘friend’ comment on how he doesnt find black women attractive

like that would be a normal week of me socializing in the world. 

this shit is constant. 

but here’s the rub, if i do write about it, i am suddenly, because of us-centrism required to take into consideration the anti-arab prejudiced that has heightened in the states after 9/11.  like i cannot write it plain (as poc online write about white folks) because liberal/progressive folk in the states have shown themselves on multiple occassions to be more concerned if i am besmirching arab-identity, than discussing my own physical and psychological survival as a black girl in the arab world.  no i am required to give ‘nuance’ and ironically have been accused, more than once, of taking us-based racial ideas to the arab world and not understanding the complexities of race…

like where i live, islam is dominant.  arab identity is dominant.  and frankly there is not a lot of writing, in english, of anti blackness in the contemporary arab world (however you may draw those borders).  trust me, ive looked.  and the anti-blackness in the arab world is fucking deadly.  like tahrir during the revolution, for me, acted as a place of refuge away from the normal anti-black woman rhetoric and assaults. 

i guess this is what comes to mind when i hear someone say that they are tired of intra-poc fights.  like, yes, i am tired of it to.  could you make it stop?  cause i would really like for arabs to stop attacking me because im black, female, uncovered.  like id really like that, okay?

Mediterranean men despise us and see us as nothing but prostitutes. We are seen as just good for sex and prostitues and our abuse is never reported nor taken seriously because of this.
